Thelema Mountain Vineyard Sutherland Sauvignon Blanc Elgin 2014

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Lime and melony fruit on the nose with herbal/grassy top notes. This is easy and round on the palate offering up simple melon and light citrus-tinged fruit in an easy to drink style. The herbal element here is quite restrained helping the fruit to pop but making this a bit of a one trick pony. The finish is crisp and short, though the acid does pop on the finale. 85pts

Sutherland Estate is a family-owned, boutique enterprise. We have endeavoured to make the smallest footprint on our land. Our property consists of 110 acres, most of which is undisturbed native bushland. The large hill on the northern side of the property, upon which our cellar door is built, is known as Daniels Hill. We have four small, separate vineyard blocks totalling about ten acres. Our original block (D block) was planted over a decade ago to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. There has been further plantings of these four varieties since then, together with two parcels of Tempranillo and Gewurztraminer. The Yarra Valley traditionally enjoys the bulk of its annual rainfall in winter and spring. Accordingly all blocks have dripper lines, and irrigation is (sparingly) provided, as needed, during summer. We do not have mains or town water - our water needs are meet from a number of dams around the property. Vineyard management includes hand pruning, bunch thinning and/or leaf plucking (if needed) and early morning hand picking. Read less

light aromatics, crisp yellow fruit, a touch flinty, a touch of green tea, rather soft and easy with fresh citrus flavors, lime, pineapple, and guava, fresh limeadey, decent acid shows up on the backend, clean fruity finish, uncomplicated but appealing in it’s intense lime character and freshness 88pts

Stinky, farty pear on the nose (in a good way). Touch of citrus. Acidic, kindof tart, like a jolly rancher (taste isn't like a jolly rancher though). A little lemony. Not too bad. Nice crisp summer white.

Lightly spiced, herbed melon and lemon aromas. Palate has medium to high acidity but more harmonious with the texture than in some other Sauvignon Blancs I've had. Lemon and melon again in the mouth and finishing with light nutty notes.

Huge round fruity melony nose. Weightless in the mouth with some acidic chalkiness and echoes of green pepper. Well balanced.

A ripe, unwooded Sauvignon Blanc with intense gooseberry and all kinds of tropical flavors. This is a dry white wine with full-throttled fruit and a nice smooth texture.

Weingut: Thelema Mt.
