Rising above the Napa Valley, on the eastern slopes of Rutherford, lies Quarry Vineyards, a patchwork of hillside vineyard blocks carved from rocky and sparse volcanic soil. This special place is the demarcation between the valley and hills of California's finest wine growing region. Since 1985, The Terraces has used this special fruit to produce small handcrafted lots of Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel. The Cabernet Sauvignon has flooding aromas and flavors of plush classic black currant, plum and berry with moderate tannins leading to a long finish. Aged in French oak for 30 months.

Born from a small yielding harvest, this plush wine has classic black current and berry aromas. Full flavors and moderate tannins that lead to a long finish. We aged the 285 case production in French oak for 31 months and then cellared it for 8 months.

Medium to medium-dark ruby; herbal, cedary, black currant aroma with hints of molasses and sassafras; full body; lean, herbal, oaky, blackberry and black cherry fruit flavors with a firm backbone, though could use a bit more depth; full tannin; hard finish; lingering aftertaste.

Located in the eastern foothills of Rutherford, Quarry Vineyards was first settled as a homestead in the 1870’s. In 1920, the Werle family purchased the property for $10.00. For the next 72 years, they produced a field blend of Zinfandel grapes, and reopened the original stone quarry on the property, which provided tufa stone for the construction of many buildings in St. Helena and the surrounding areas. The Crull family purchased the Werle property in 1993 and renamed it Quarry Vineyards in reference to its history as a working rock quarry. With the assistance of Beringer Blass, the Crulls began replanting the old vines in 1994, and Beringer harvested the first Quarry fruit in 1997. Today Quarry Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are used in variety of Beringer Blass programs, including Private Reserve Cabernet and a limited bottling of Quarry Vineyard single vineyard Cabernet. In the 1970’s Wayne Hogue purchased a 21 acre portion of the Werle property and created The Terraces. In 2001, the Crull family purchased The Terraces property, reuniting the original homestead.
