Jammy, porty nose. Ale-y. Hot. Life is good. Great mouthfeel, medium tannin, light acid. Cracked pepper. Roses. Black fruit.

WA 96pts. - According to the Wine Advocate: The fruit for the 2005 Shiraz came from nearly 100 year old vines and spent 36 months in seasoned French barriques. Deep garnet-purple colored, it is vibrant and floral at this stage with notes of chocolate, creme de cassis, game, mint and anise. The palate is fine and complex, with a good backbone of high acid, medium level of fine-grained tannins and a long harmonious finish. It s drinking now and should continue to do so until 2020+ Winemaker Notes - The Standish Wine Company was created in 1999 when Ex-Torbreck Winemaker Dan sourced a small parcel of Old Vine Shiraz from his parent s vineyard in the heart of the Barossa Valley. The 96-year old vines are planted on the typical sand over clay soil profile characteristic of the Vine Vale sub-region of the Barossa. Standish Shiraz is crafted from this 96-year old block of dry grown, organically farmed Shiraz.

The sensational 2002 Shiraz (from 89-year-old vines) offers up scents of roasted meats, beef broth, blackberries, and cassis liqueur. Its texture, sumptuous depth, and incredible richness and purity blew me away. Despite its huge size, it possesses tremendous equilibrium and definition. Drink this classic South Australian Shiraz over the next 10ndash;15 years. If you love the wines of Torbreck, yoursquo;ll also find this wine totally compelling.
Impressive in so many ways, not least in how it packs layers and layers of flavors into a lithe package that never loses its refinement. The blueberry and currant flavors submerge themselves in a racy frame, enlivened by acidity but marked by gentle generosity on the long finish. Best from 2009 through 2017.
