The Show Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Member Review by Dianne from NY:

The Vault by Banknote Wine was a great find! Honestly I was first drawn to the wine because of the interesting label, but then the wineshop owner told me it was actually a very complex and well made wine, so I gave it a shot. He was right, it is very jammy, and really easy to drink! I'm going back this weekend to buy some more......

Three Thieves:
You may have heard the tale of the Three Thieves, three regular guys who threw away centuries of tradition and winemaking knowledge, and in the process, changed the wine industry forever. You may have heard the tale of the Three Thieves, three regular guys who threw away centuries of tradition and winemaking knowledge, and in the process, changed the wine industry forever. Their story begins in 2001, when the trio—a.k.a Charles Bieler, Joel Gott, and Roger Scommegna—hit upon a brilliant thought. Realizing that there was an enormous excess of great wine being produced by premium wineries, and a flourishing market for quality wine at the $10 price point, they began buying wine from these wineries and creating their own blends, using their own winemaking skills to improve upon the original composition. The three partners got a reputation for ‘robbing’ vineyards blind of high-end varietals, at prices described as a ‘steal,’ and the name “Three Thieves” stuck. Like Robin Hood and his Merry Men, the Three Thieves ‘stole’ from the rich, and made great wine accessible to everyone—from NASCAR fans looking for something to pair with their drive-thru dinners, to soccer moms looking for a respite from their busy days. They believed that there was more to good wine than fancy bottles, and their first release, a Zinfandel bottled in a one-liter glass jug with a screw top, proved their point when it was a huge hit with wine lovers everywhere. Soon afterwards, Three Thieves released jugs of Cabernet and Chardonnay to much hoopla and fanfare and their reputation as mavericks was sealed. Their outside-the-box thinking soon became inside-the-box thinking when they again pushed the boundaries with Tetra Pak Bandits. Inside of these lightweight, eco-friendly, resealable boxes, is the kind of tremendous quality wine people have come to expect from Three Thieves. More innovations—and lots of great wine— followed, including The Show, True Earth wines, and even a partnership with an honest-to-goodness real-life legend, Paul Newman, and the Newman’s Own Foundation. Rest assured that this story is not yet over, and that the Three Thieves will carry on blazing a trail in the wild, wild wine world. Read less

I had the Banknote red blend a few months ago at a Pizza joint in Napa, I was really impressed! The nose was ripe with berries, sweet oak and espresso. A medium bodied wine, but is bursting with ripe fruit and has nice tannins on the back end to give it some structure. I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys Zinfandel, which I think is the dominant varietal in this blend. Easily worth the $30 asking price.

while the blend is very similar, the wine is a bit more elegant and livelier than 'the prisoner' it's certainly a red I would easily recommend...

Like a Hatch print for an Elvis gig, The Show grabs your attention. Big and bold, it is dominated by full flavors of dried black cherries, jammypreserves and layers of spice and sweet vanilla.

Herersquo;s another delightful wine from the trio (Charles Bieler, Joel Gott, Roger Scommes) who showed us that jug wines can be fun and good. Three different labels, in the bold, iconic style of 1879, pay homage to the rodeo. The Show opens with deep garnet color and aromas of cassis, plum and clove, leading to juicy flavors of blueberry and blackberry, smooth tannins and a crisp, long finish. This charming wine could share the billing with grilled yellowfin tuna, well-aged cheddar, or pork loin with wild mushroom madeira sauce. The Show is a well-balanced example of Cabernet Sauvignon to enjoy often and at this price, buy a case, and share the experience with family and friends!

Winemaker Notes - As pioneering winemakers, we have revolutionized the industry with daring packaging and award-winning wine. In our latest inspired departure from the mainstream, we've partnered with another American icon, Nashville s Hatch Show Print, for this release: The Show. Since our beginning in 2003, we've set the standard for emerging wine brands. Our eco-friendly Bandits have attracted legions of new wine drinkers and earned acclaim from wine critics as well. The Show adds yet another breath of fresh air to the sometimes-stuffy world of wine.

The Show is a Cabernet with the style and flair of a show biz headliner at the price of a virtual unknown. Produced by celebrated Napa hero Joel Gott and his Three Thieves crew, the label is inspired by the famous Hatch Show Prints that have announced everything from the Rodeo to Louis Armstrong to Elvis concerts. The grapes are from Sonoma and Mendocino with a touch of Napa Valley. It has a tiny bit of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petite Sirah blended in and it’s aged in French and American oak barrels.
