The Prisoner Cuttings 2012
The Prisoner truly is... "one of a kind". When Dave Phinney (founder) launched the wine in 2003, there really was no other wine like it. Inspired and created by the drinkable "mixed blacks" first made by the Italian immigrants who originally settled in the Napa Valley, it was innovative and unique. In the late '90s a handful of Napa producers took an interest in making this style of wine. The blend soon began to incorporate not only Zinfandel, but also Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Charbono, and Grenache.

The nose is a pleasant blend of red fruit, strawberries, plum, green grass and tar. The taste is very jammy up front, with rich fruit, plum, blackberry and strawberry that transitioned to some dusty limestone and smoke midpalate. The finish was smooth and very dry, with a smoky accent that lingered for a good while. I had an older vintage ... I believe a bit over priced for the lack of depth, but overall a nice balanced wine

Inky ruby. Heady cherry and blackcurrant scents are complicated by smoky herbs pipe tobacco potpourri and dusty minerals. Broad and pliant offering palate-staining dark berry preserve flavors given lift and bite by a spicecake quality. Sweet and velvety on the relentless finish which leaves candied cherry and mineral notes behind. Stephen Tanzers IWC.
The wine has a deep ruby red hue that is framed in rich crimson. Aromas of black cherry and plum, surrounded by roasted co ee beans and vanillin oak accents. The entry is powerful and lush with flavors of bing cherry, blueberry and cocoa. Soft and velvety tannins round out the finish making this wine approachable and inviting. - Jen Beloz, WinemakerThe blend:46% Zinfandel22% Cabernet Sauvignon18% Petite Sirah12% Syrah2% CharbonoAging: 30% New Oak, Combination of French and American Oak Barrels ** Only 12 in Stock **
