The Little Penguin Shiraz 2006
2006 was a relatively early vintage, with low rainfall and warm weather contributing to an early budburst and flowering. Mild to warm weather throughout summer helped the fruit to mature well and rains at harvest allowed fruit to ripen well with good varietal character. Hold this hefty red to the light and marvel at the dense, bright magenta hues. Savor the splashes of chocolate, spice and juicy strawberries on the nose. The flavor has equally impressive dark sweet fruit, closing with an impressive length. This Australian Shiraz wine holds its own with hard cheeses and anything on the barbie, from red meats to blackened fish. The Little Penguin, the smallest of penguins, is found all along the coast of South Eastern Australia - from north of Sydney around to Western Australia, a habitat that also frames the best wine growing regions in Australia.
The little penguin wines are appropriate for any occasion. From a party with the whole colony to a quiet night in the burrow, the little penguin enjoys nothing more than socializing and foraging for delicacies.
Is it just me, or does Little Penguin have more value than almost any other wine in its price range? I'm already a fan of their Pinot Noir; and I'm equally a fan of this smooth and jammy Shiraz. Little Penguin, just keep doing what you are doing.
This wine was extremely delicious, particularly for the price.
For such a cheap bottle of wine ($6) I was very impressed
