The Gaucho Club 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

After harvest, the grapes are cool macerated in order to retain fruit characters and color. 50% of the wine is cold fermented while the remainder stays warm and left on skins for two weeks. The Malbec is then oak aged for six months prior to bottling.

This Malbec pours a beautifully aged tawny color with the end of the fresh purple and raspberry juice hues lingering around the rim. Clarity is nice as well.....The aromas are most definitely oak rich, meaty and full of charred Earth. With some oxygen however, things round out and the subtle spice of the Malbec grape shines through, along with robust black fruits and hints of booze. The flavors follow suit, with heavy beef/meaty taste, char, oak, hints of spiced vanilla, blueberry, cassis, and slight alcohol heat, but decently balanced. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth upon initial sipping. I think this has aged relatively well and probably still has potential for a couple of more years. Good value!
