The Federalist Zinfandel Lodi 2016

External Review by We Speak Wine:

The Federalist Lodi Zinfandel is a revolutionary wine created to salute the first President of the United States, George Washington. In the spirit of George Washington and our Founding Fathers, this wine offers bold and original expressions of this truly American grape. This wine connects the founding fathers love of wine, some of whom had vineyards of their own, with this historic appellation known for its old vine Zinfandel. The Lodi Zinfandel has aromas of red fruits (plum, cherry) and cinnamon spice, a good density, firm tannin structure, and a long, smooth finish.

Vintage: 2014 10/11/2016

With our first president and "Father of our Country", George Washington gracing the label this wine reminders us that Zinfandel was considered "the American grape" for long time before it's true Adriatic origins were discerned. And Lodi is one of the regions where Zin was first cultivated and vinified by the pioneers who settled the wild west. The old vine plantings that still grow in this area offer Zin with unique character and expression. A blend of 93% Zinfandel and 7% Syrah, grapes from each vineyard block were fermented separately spending an average of 12 days on the skins. The wine then aged for 12 months in 25% new American oak barrels. The previous vintage was 96 point selection in Beverage Dynamics Retailer Reviews. They said "A simply delightful, easy-to-enjoy style, loaded with classic varietal aromas and flavors." and so is the 2014 which is loaded with ripe berry fruit dusted with baking spices. Raspberry, black cherry, ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon. It’s silky smooth and beautifully. A great value!
