The Crusher Growers Selection Clarksburg Petite Sirah 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

The Crusher Growers Selection Clarksburg Petite Sirah aroma leaps out of the glass with fresh blackberries, toasted walnuts, and a toffee-like edge. The wine transitions on the palate to rich, creamy blueberry flavors, a full-bodied, milk chocolate mouthfeel, and caramel oak nuance. Rich and soft, it evokes thoughts of cocoa butter and nutmeg. Velvety, mouth-filling tannins lead to a faintly sweet, strawberry finish. 833302001624

To Don Sebastiani and Sons, family is clearly an important aspect of winemaking. While Don Sebastiani and Sons wasn’t founded until 2001, Samuele Sebastiani created a winery in 1904, and started growing the company, as well as the town of Sonoma. Over the years, the winery changed hands many times, but it always stayed within the family. By 2000, the winery was producing eight million cases of wine a year. However, at that time, Don Sebastiani sold many of the assets and kept only the family brand and the Sonoma winery and vineyards. Though he stepped down as CEO and Chairman in 2000, that wasn’t the end for him. In 2001, he and his sons, Donny and August, founded Don Sebastiani and Sons, eventually growing production back up to two million cases annually. Today, Greg Kitchens and Michelle McClendon, winemakers for Don Sebastiani and Sons, strive to produce high-end wine at affordable prices. They don’t just source grapes from California - they’ve also formed partnerships to create Australian and Chilean blends, further expanding the company’s reach and complexity. Read less

Rich, dark aromas of blackberries, violets, and crushed white pepper invite one into this Clarksburg appellation Petite Sirah. A jammy array of blackberry and black cherry avors dominate the palate, complemented by hints of vanilla, sassafras, and exotic oaky notes that linger through the nish. Full-bodied, with rich mouth- lling tannins, the wine displays a multi-layered depth and complexity that invites lingered contemplation and enjoyment. This wine will pair nicely with grilled meats, savory pastas like butternut squash ravioli with a brown butter sage sauce, or even dark chocolate. - Winery

The Crusher Petite Sirah 2009 is a deep, inky purple, with aromas of jammy blueberry, vanilla, caramel, and a touch of baking spice. Concentrated, soft fruit flavors of dark raspberry and blackberry sorbet are well balanced by notes of brown sugar and cedar contributed from the French oak aging. Well rounded with subtle secondary flavors as well, dark chocolate and cinnamon stick both emerge in the mid-palate. Big and full-bodied, the rich mouthfeel is enhanced by a solid backbone of tannins that finish soft, even in the wines youth due to minimal fining. The berry flavors linger in the finish, and balanced natural acidity makes you want to go back for another taste. With its moderate alcohol and excellent concentration, this varietal is clearly the flagship of The Crusher. - Winery ** SOLD OUT **
