The Crossings Sauvignon Blanc Atwatere Valley Marlborough 2017

External Review by We Speak Wine:

THE STORY OF THE CROSSINGS: The Crossings’ 100% Awatere Valley sourcing offers you The Purest Expression of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. With distinctive elegance, our award-winning wines are estate grown and express the intense fruit and mineral flavors that make Awatere Valley wine such a distinctive experience. VITICULTURE / WINEMAKING: The Awatere Valley experienced a mild-to-cool spring period, which ensured that the vines naturally produced lighter than average yields. These mild temperatures then extended into the summer months, coupled with an unseasonal period of rain, which ultimately alleviated the drought conditions we had experienced over the past two years. Carrying lighter than usual crops along with the cooler weather meant vintage started only a week later than previous years. We harvested the grapes over a two week period, picking each block at the point of optimum fl avor development. This year’s wines are perfectly balanced by our hallmark fresh minerality. This wine was made from fruit sourced from our three Awatere Valley vineyards; Medway, Willowflat and Brackenfield. Each parcel was picked and fermented separately, allowing us to enhance varietal character using carefully selected yeast strains. A long, cool fermentation took place over four weeks, followed by blending, stabilization and filtering prior to bottling. TASTING NOTES: The Crossings Sauvignon Blanc shows lifted grassy, herbal notes, underpinned with citrus notes. The palate is full with pure fruit flavors, yet balanced with a persistent, crisp mineral finish. Enjoy with both fresh and cooked seafood dishes such as oysters, prawns, and fish. ALC: 12.5% Titratable Acid: 7.20 g/l pH: 3.26 Residual Sugar: 3.9 g/l

A special place where early European settlers first crossed the fast flowing waters of the Awatere River in Marlborough, New Zealand. The Crossings was founded by a group of wine lovers who dreamed of crafting outstanding wines from grapes grown in the picturesque Awatere Valley in the Marlborough region at the north eastern tip of the South Island of New Zealand. Their dream was realised in 2001 with the first vintage of The Crossings. Today, with three superb vineyards producing Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and a state-of-the-art winery, The Crossings wines have an enviable reputation for quality in several of the world's most discerning markets. The 143 hectare (353 acres) estate is planted on three distinctive vineyards, each on alluvial river terraces, on the northern bank of the Awatere River. Read less

VITICULTURE / WINEMAKING: Sculpted by ancient glaciers between the Black Birch and Inland Kaikoura mountain ranges, the Awatere Valley is the coolest and driest of the three Marlborough winegrowing sub-regions. Throughout the long summer and early autumn months, our 2015 vintage has captured its ideal slow-ripening conditions. For the wine, we identified nine premium parcels of Sauvignon Blanc from our Awatere Valley vineyards and were able to harvest the grapes at the optimal time. Each parcel was picked and fermented separately, allowing us to enhance varietal character using carefully selected yeast strains. A long, cool fermentation took place over four weeks, followed by blending and stabilization before bottling. TASTING NOTES: The Crossings Sauvignon Blanc shows lifted notes of bell pepper and passionfruit, underpinned with citrus notes. The palate is full with pure fruit flavors, yet balanced with a persistent, crisp mineral finish. Enjoy with both fresh and cooked seafood dishes such as oysters, prawns and fish. ALC: 13.5% Titratable Acid: 7.15 g/l pH: 3.38 Residual Sugar: 3.6 g/l
