The Crossings Pinot Noir Awatere Valley 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Anchored in an elegant structure, the tannins sit alongside a mid-palate boasting a supple and very intense core of fruit. Aromatically the nose shows delicate red berry fruits while taking in violet and forest floor nuances before finishing with an infusion of darker cherry notes. High toned fruit forms a gateway into a revealing palate and very persistent finish. The palate is rich and unusually mouth filling for an Awatere wine while retaining the taut structure and minerality that typifies the sub region’s fruit. Enjoy with lamb loin or seared tuna as the wine unfurls and opens for hours in the glass...

The Crossings was founded by a group of wine lovers who dreamed of crafting outstanding wines from grapes grown in the picturesque Awatere Valley in the Marlborough region at the north eastern tip of the South Island of New Zealand. Their dream was realised in 2001 with the first vintage of The Crossings. Beautiful upfront red fruit developed into an earthy/mushroom mid-pallet with good minerality. A perfect blend of old world and new world styling. Finished with tart cherry that lasted quite a while. I really love this wine with wild king salmon.

Brilliant pale scarlet color. The nose offers a pretty perfume of roses, strawberry, pomegranate and a subtle oak component. On the palate, the wine is light to medium bodied and possesses a smooth texture and bright acidity. Very pleasant without a... John Sweeney. This Pinot Noir has macerated black cherries and bilberry on the lively nose. Sweet ripe blackberry dominating the palate that has chewy tannins, lacks some finesse towards the finish but good weight and I think this should meld together with time. ** SOLD OUT **
