What to Expect

Vernaccia is one of Tuscany's great grapes. It produces a medium-bodied yet bright white wine that offers well-integrated citrus and orchard fruits with notes of dried herbs, roasted nuts and salty minerals adding complexity.

Winemakers Notes

Enrico Teruzzi is a true Tuscan pioneer, being not only one of the first people in the region to install temperature control in his cellar, but also doing much to save Vernaccia from extinction. Admittedly, the legislation was already in place to do so: Vernaccia di San Gimignano was the first DOC to be created, in 1966, eight years before Enrico’s arrival. Nonetheless, his determination has ensured that this most characterful of Tuscany’s indigenous white varieties is more than a legal curiosity. San Gimignano, close to the Chianti zone, also has a growing reputation for Sangiovese. The read more...wine takes its name from the soil in which the vines grow: tufo, a volcanic soil mixed, in this case, with limestone. The resulting wine has an intense, complex nose of apple, pineapple and mineral is followed by a round, full-bodied palate with an appealing hint of toasty oak on the finish.    (hide)
