The estate's 2003 Taurasi possesses tell-tale notes of game, cured meats, smoke, leather, spices and dark fruit on a strapping frame. A big Taurasi, the wine offers tons of balance in a generous, pleasing style, with sweet, mentholated notes that linger on the finish. This is an unusually polished Taurasi that can be enjoyed today, but the firm tannins suggest the wine will continue to drink well for at least another few years. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2013.

Grown in calcareous clay soils at 1,350 feet, this balances ripe cherry and plum fruit with savory tannins. The structure softens with air, showing the heat of the season in the wineandrsquo;s gentle tannins, yet thereandrsquo;s a bright core of acidity to retain focus. Drinking well now, with lasting flavors of dried rose, cherry and earth, this is a good match for braised lamb shanks.

Gamey, herbal nose, dry cherry fruit. Needs time to knit.
