Terredora di Paolo Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio 2010

Member Review by tommyvino:

100% Piedirosso from hillside vineyards located on Mt. Vesuvio which spent 8 months in small French Oak barrels. Deep garnet color with a nice nose of spicy currants, black raspberry, sweet spice ie. clove, nutmeg, and dusty earth. The palate though not as intense as the nose comes through with juicy red fruit, stewed tomatoes, a very earthy minerality with a slight gritty bitterness on the finish which I like. Dry, medium bodied, with lively acidity, firm but not overpowering tannins that have a nice grip, and a long finish. I really liked the minerality this wine has, the fruit is expected but the added bonus is the earthy complexity which I think is due to the young volcanic soil which it is grown on. Roasted and braised meats seams like a logical choice but the pizza I had last night was great too, its no coincidence Naples arguably Italy's pizza capitol is located just north of this appellation. 3.5/5

Wine Tasting NotesIntensely ruby red in color with violet reflections; it has an intensely fruity aroma with hints of cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant and spicy overtones with hints of minerals and cloves. Soft and elegant, with pleasant tones of mature red fruits, plums and hints of tobacco, coffee and ground pepper. Ideal with flavorful first courses with meat sauces, white and red meat, mature cheeses and hot spicy cheeses.
