Terredora di Paolo Falanghina Irpinia Italy Red Red Blend 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

a very green, white wine. It’s similar to a dry Sauvignon, but with a buttery smooth structure and finish. This wine is an oxymoron in a glass that comes out to great affect.

Very fruit driven on the nose with chalky lemon notes over grapefruit rind and peach fruit. On entry his is bright and juicy with lovely fruit that recalls the chalky citrus of the nose in a medium bodied package with juicy acidity and good length. There’s a nice purity and brightness to the fruit here but this is a touch simple, still lipsmackingly good. 89pts

Some interesting, savory brioche notes on the nose with tropical fruits. Has an almost, meaty, fatty quality underlying on the aromas. Very complex and engaging palate. Interesting.

This is a beautiful wine. Very smooth and easy to drink. Quite a lot of mineral taste matched with fruits like peach.

This is full and intense, with lemon, pear and mineral character. Shows complex fruit flavors on a well-defined palate, with balanced acidity and a long finish of fruit and mineral. There's some petrol to this, like Riesling. A classy Fiano. Drink now.

The 2009 Fiano di Avellino comes across as a touch compact, most likely owing to its recent bottling. All of the classic Fiano signature aromas and flavors are in evidence, with subtle notes of earthiness and ash that complement the fruit. The Fiano is a touch less floral than the Greco but offers just as much length and finesse.

Terredora is a dynamic, family-run winery with deep roots in Irpinia wine tradition. The Fiano di Avellino opens with mature yellow and exotic fruit aromas with background notes of dusty mineral and crushed granite.

Straw-green. Closed but pure nose hints at green apple, white flowers and flint. Then delicate and nicely concentrated, with a smoky nuance adding complexity to the flavors of white peach, hazelnut, thyme and orange peel. The white peachy fruit lingers impressively, with harmonious acidity providing lift and verve. Iandrsquo;d cellar this lovely wine for a couple years and enjoy it for ten more after that.
