Terredora di Paolo Falanghina Campania IGT 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

88 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): Juicy apricots and peaches are some of the many notes that flow from the 2011 Fiano di Avellino Terre di Dora. A rich, textured wine, the 2011 is built more on the fruit than on some of the more varietal notes that are often present, but the wine's textural elegance is impossible to miss. Shades of tropical-infused fruit wrap around the viscous finish. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2014. (Feb 2013)

Richly aromatic, with warm orchard fruit and slightly tropical citrus aromas accented by a nice sweet floral note. Moderately rich on entry, this shows fine tension between the fine base of sweet citrus fruit and sharper floral and mineral notes, gaining a hint of smoke and a touch of bitterness on the back end. This is refreshing without being overly acidic and shows good richness for a medium-bodied white wine. Great for white fish. 88 points

Very fruit driven on the nose with chalky lemon notes over grapefruit rind and peach fruit. On entry his is bright and juicy with lovely fruit that recalls the chalky citrus of the nose in a medium bodied package with juicy acidity and good length. There’s a nice purity and brightness to the fruit here but this is a touch simple, still lipsmackingly good. 89pts

Tried this in an effort to be more familiar with the white wines of Campania. Lemon and floral notes on the nose. First thoughts on tasting were that I would much prefer this to a similarly priced chardonnay, and I think most people will be surprised by this wine. Lemony with notes of pineapple and slight grapefruit in its tartness. It is a well-rounded white that's quite delicious. Another solid effort from Terredora di Paolo. Paired VERY WELL with crab cakes I had for lunch. Do yourself a favor and do not overchill this wine. It is much richer at warmer temperatures. All you get is lemon when it is cold.

Some interesting, savory brioche notes on the nose with tropical fruits. Has an almost, meaty, fatty quality underlying on the aromas. Very complex and engaging palate. Interesting.

This is a beautiful wine. Very smooth and easy to drink. Quite a lot of mineral taste matched with fruits like peach.

Nose of pineapple and papaya. Full bodied, exotic, and oily. It really rather tastes like dip of EVOO and salt. Very interesting.

Nov. 18, 2008. BOT244. JK Comments: $19. 13%. Dark and rich nose, apricot, honey, flint. Apricot, honey, herbal mintiness. Darkness over A Mano due to residual CO2. Vias - good importer.

This is full and intense, with lemon, pear and mineral character. Shows complex fruit flavors on a well-defined palate, with balanced acidity and a long finish of fruit and mineral. There's some petrol to this, like Riesling. A classy Fiano. Drink now.

Straw-green. Closed but pure nose hints at green apple, white flowers and flint. Then delicate and nicely concentrated, with a smoky nuance adding complexity to the flavors of white peach, hazelnut, thyme and orange peel. The white peachy fruit lingers impressively, with harmonious acidity providing lift and verve. Iandrsquo;d cellar this lovely wine for a couple years and enjoy it for ten more after that.

The 2009 Fiano di Avellino comes across as a touch compact, most likely owing to its recent bottling. All of the classic Fiano signature aromas and flavors are in evidence, with subtle notes of earthiness and ash that complement the fruit. The Fiano is a touch less floral than the Greco but offers just as much length and finesse.

Terredora is a dynamic, family-run winery with deep roots in Irpinia wine tradition. The Fiano di Avellino opens with mature yellow and exotic fruit aromas with background notes of dusty mineral and crushed granite.

Wine Tasting NotesMedium gold with subtle notes of mature fruit and flowers with hints of pear, apricot, citrus fruits, toasted hazelnuts, acacia, hawthorn and honey. It is persistent and aromatic and will reward a few years cellaring.
