Terrazas de Los Andes Malbec Reserva 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Colour: Profound cerise with florid, rubicund highlights. Aroma: Freshly crushed violet flowers envelop a deep core of jam preserves and ripened plums typical of Mendoza´s Vistalba region. Palate: Racy notes of violet and graphite, are followed by mouthfuls of dry cherries and fresh berry fruit. The luscious mid-palate, gives way to powdery tannins and a delicate herbal blend infused finish that adds to complexity.

After traveling around the region, Poirier visited Luján de Cuyo, in Mendoza. Highly impressed by the local conditions for winemaking and the presence of excellent high elevation vineyards, Poirier and Moët & Chandon decided to set up its first ever vineyards outside France. After decades of experiencing with sparkling wines production, in 1999, Moët Hennessy Wine Estates and Bodegas Chandon Argentina opened Terrazas de los Andes Winery - a varietal still-wines initiative based on its emblematic high-elevation vineyards, fed by the Andes meltwater. Bright ruby red. Bit of a medicinal nose with a background of blackberry and chocolate. Medium to heavy mouthfell with a striking unexpected sweetness to it. Continuation of the blackberry and chocolate profile noted on the palate with a nice blend of tannins.

Rich plum color, aromas of black stone fruits and spices; flavors of plums, boysenberries, blueberries, mint, leather and coconut with supple tannins and good length. Fire up the grill!

Another nice vintage from Terrazas. A good solid Malbec that is easily found and good for anyone to try out.

Ripe plum and black cherry flavors abound, mixed with the tiniest hint of ammonia in the nose, which subsides quickly. The wine is still rather tannic, but the rough structure and seemingly endless finish suggest it will improve with a few more years. (AV 87, http://argovino.com/?p=514)

Great wine for the price! Robust flavour - very rich and full. This is not a thin Argentinian Malbec! This is an excellent wine.

a wonderful Malbec! it was born at altitude (3,500 feet in the Andes of Argentina), so it goes really awesome here at 6,700 feet in the Rockies of Colorado!!! :-)

Slightly bouncy, brambly and foxy, with bubblegum and red-fruit aromas. The palate is sweet, friendly and plump, with a pretty good mouthfeel and candied berry flavors in the lead. Young and sticky on the finish; sweet and lively as a whole.

Full red-ruby. Spicy cherry, currant and plum aromas are complicated by a whiff of vanillin oak. Supple and easygoing, with dark berry, black cherry and licorice flavors framed by a firm spine of acidity. Offers attractive texture and concentration for the price.

Dark blackberry and plum fruit, with hints of grilled meat, mineral and tar. Muscular up front, but fresh and easy through the finish. Very tasty. Drink now.

Dark crimson in color, with aromas of sour cherries, smoke and spices. Bright and generous with plumy, chewy tannins that build to a refreshing finish.

The 2008 Malbec is dark ruby-colored with a pleasant nose of cinnamon, violets, and black cherry. This leads to an easy-going, friendly wine with ripe fruit and spicy flavors. It can be enjoyed over the next three years.

A fresh, easygoing style, with raspberry and briar notes backed by a touch of toast. Drink now.

Reticent but with savory flavors, good depth, and moderate length.
