Terravin Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

The vines for this Sauvignon Blanc grow in soils layered with gravel and seams of clay, giving the wine some of the notes one would expect from a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Winemaker Mike Eaton then fermented and aged a small portion of the harvest in French Oak to add complexity and mid-palate richness. This helps seperate Terravin's Sauvingon Blanc from the rest of the New Zealand (sheep)herd.

Mike and Jo Eaton established TerraVin in the Marlborough region of New Zealand in 1999. The focus is on producing wines that reflect the 30 years Mike has spent in the vineyards locally and his time spent in France. The wines are made from fruit grown on organically managed Estate or leased vineyards, where they retain complete control of all aspects of vineyard management. Varieties: Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay All Pinot Noir is grown on hillside plantings where crops are carefully managed and winemaking is a hands on affair. There are 3 tiers of wines in the Terravin range. Estate- a more fruit focused range tha accentuates the natural fruit that marlborough is famous for. Hillside Reserve - A selection of barrels that are blended from the best aspects of the hillside blocks of bth Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Single Vineyard - Selected from the finest Pinot Noir sites and the finest barrels that typify that particular vineyard. A true expression of place - terroir. Te Ahu - 100% Sauvignon Blanc that is sourced from old, low yielding vines. Wild fermented in french puncheons for up to 11 months before blending and bottling. A unique expression of Sauvignon Blanc. "J" - miniscule quantities (400 bottles) of this merlot dominant bordeaux blend are made by Mike each year in honour of his wife Jo. Read less

64% Sauvignon Blanc 36% Semillon. UK Wine Educator Angela Reddin recently tasted and said Quite WOW. Delicious crisp mouth entry ... at last someone is making a world class pairing of the two in Marlborough.
