Terralsole Mario Bollag Coldoro Merlot 2005

Member Review by Mark Angelillo:

Slightly dusty, cherries and blackberries. Quite dry and acidic, very earthy, black cherries and a nice dry earthy fruit on the finish. A little simple.

Vigna Pian Bossolino is located on Montalcintf's south eastern slopes, an area well known for its favorable sun exposure and great ventilation. The latter is a guarantee against mould, hail and other adverse weather conditions. This vineyard is 420 meters above sea level. This altitude ensures a good variation between day and night temperatures which establishes elegance and bouquet for the wines.Vigna Fonte Lattaia is lower in altitude and is on the south western slopes on the road that links the Romanesque abbey of S.Antimo to the hamlet of S.Angelo in Colle. This area has a very warm climate which is extremely beneficial during the maturation of our grapes. The yield from this area is distinguished by great sugar levels in the fruit which results in full-bodied structured wines. The soil here is characterized by a strong presence of clay which provides a reserve of water during the hot season. Terralsole has the advantage of well-maintained vineyards in excellent positions, a state of the art cellar, our team of competent and dedicated staff, and last but not least, our love and passion for great wines and the experience and artistry to Create them. Smells like an east-coast beach on the nose, with notes of cardamom and saffron. Licorice on the mouth, with a long herbal undercurrent. Very interesting.

Earthy, fungal, slightly balsamic note on the nose. Big but dry sour cherries, fresh oak and a touch of vanilla on the finish - which, by the way, features huge grippy tannins.

medium ruby verging on brick. light to medium in body and tannin. a little soft for Tuscan wine for me. great complex aromatics - stale tea leaf, pencil lead, juicy black plum skin. medium finish. i went for thirds on this.
