The classic Bordeaux blends rely on either Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon for the bulk of the wine with additions of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec helping to add complexity, color, body and structure to the finished wine.

Reviews

When I first tried this after the bottle was opened, I thought it was too light and a little 'green' for a super Tuscan. It reminded me more of a Pinot Noir. I don't know if it was having a few minutes to breathe a little or when I started digging in to some excellent Bolognese, but this wine paired beautifully and really started showing its stuff. It also fit right in with the move to a filet mignon and an herb crusted veal chop.

The 2004 Campaccio (70% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon) reveals layers of ripe fruit with notable vitality on the palate and enough concentration to stand up to the oak treatment. It offers outstanding length and fine overall balance in a big, bold style that will require a few years to come together in the bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019. This medium-bodied wine had a deep red color and aromas of strawberry, plum and cocoa with a hint of leather. The structure was excellent with the fruit and some oakiness and a finish of cherries and vanilla. Nice long finish!! The wine got better as it opened. Great wine!
