Vintage Notes
The 2006 growing season in the Russian River was cool and slow, with optimal flavor resulting from long hang-time. Delayed bud-break and late rains encouraged stronger vine growth and pushed harvest dates quite late. Cool weather throughout allowed time for good flavor development with the added benefit of great acid retention.
Winemaking Notes 2006 was the second year making this Viognier. The grapes were harvested in mid-October and whole cluster pressed for fermentation: 45% to barrel and 55% into stainless steel tanks. We then racked the wine into French oak read more...barrels, 15% of which were new and the rest neutral puncheons, where it aged for 7 months surlie. Filtering ensured a crisp, clean wine. The Viognier was bottled in our first ever screw cap on June 4th, 2007!
Vineyard Notes The fruit is sourced from the Sunny View Vineyard on Guernville Road in the heart of the Russian River. The vineyard is small, about 4 acres, and displays characteristics that are native to the Russian River.
Tasting Notes Tropical notes fill the nose followed by ripe peaches, lychee and a hint of hazelnut. There is minerality on the palate, which compliments the melon and honeysuckle flavors. Rich, crisp and ready to drink, just in time for the weather to heat up. (hide)
