Terra Valentine Pinot Noir Spring Mountain District 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2005 vintage in Russian River was characterized by devastating late rains in May and June. These late rains occurred while the vines were in the middle of bloom drastically reducing the yield of fruit on the vines. Some vineyards lost up to 90% of the crop. Fortunately for Terra Valentine, we sourced from three different vineyards so, despite the low yields, we were able to attain some lovely fruit... The three vineyards are as follows: The Freestone Vineyard, located at the border of the Russian River Valley and the Sonoma Coast. Up on a ridge above the town of Occidental is Morelli Lane Vineyard, and the Campbell Vineyard is in Green Valley. Our 2005 Pinot Noir was fermented with native yeast and bottled unfined and unfiltered. It was aged for 11 months in French Oak, 35% of which was new. Dark plum, black cherry and violets open up the aromas backed by cocoa and subtle spices. Deeper and richer than past vintages, our 2005 Pinot Noir shows the huge potential of a low yielding vintage. Full bodied with powerful fruit tannins, this wine is both intense and elegant, with beautiful pinot character. 500 cases produced. This wine is available through the winery only. Estimated release date: October 1, 2006. 1.5L $95.
