Terra Rosa Laurel Glen Malbec 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2004 Terra Rosa is a BIG and juicy mouthful of wine, with a lashing of very sexy oak. We didn't set out to make this vintage in such a crowd-pleasing : the vintage dictated the result, and it is really delicious....at once rich and powerful and with the delicate, long finish which the best malbecs display! The year was warm, and trouble-free. No rot, no hail, just nice warm days with the typically quite cool evenings. These conditions resulted in full ripening at higher than normal sugars, while still maintaining balance and finesse. My post-fermentation notes, written in Mendoza, include the following descriptors of the several components: "very fragrant, rich, thick, fruity, long finish, very fine definition, warm black fruit, round mouth feel, huge glass-staining color, great potential" and so on. The finished wine follows true to these observations. The 2004 Terra Rosa is a blend from our top vineyards in the Mendoza region: it captures the finesse of Perdriel, the power of San Carlos, the depth of La Consulta, and the high tones of Tupungato. We blended in 10% old vine tempranillo from our San Carlos vineyard to enhance its spicy component. The average age of these vineyards is 80 years, which goes a long way towards explaining its intensity! Not to mention the limited production of under two tons to the acre. The 2004 drinks beautifully by itself and even more beautifully with a hearty pasta, pizza, and of course, grilled meats. Buen provecho - Enjoy!! The 2004 Terra Rosa is a BIG AND JUICY mouthful of wine with a lashing of lively oak. A blend from some of the top vineyards in Mondoza region of Argentina: it captures the finesse of Perdriel, the power of San Carlos, the depth of La Consulta, and the high notes of Tupungato. 10% old vine Tempranillo from San Carlos vineyard was added to enhance its spicy component. The average age of these vineyards is 80 years, which goes a long way toward explaining this wine's intensity.
