The nose here offers up an interesting blend of sweetness and earthiness with red currant fruit framed with notes of dried herbs, toasty oak, leather and earth. A little lighter bodied on entry than expected with a taut character driven by rather formidable, dry and yet not imposing tannins. The fruit here is fresh and elegant, with mulberry and plum edges. Acidity is well judged and the oak adds nice toasty spice and faint caramel complexity to the palate before receding a bit on the moderately long and lightly peppery finish. An understated wine and the kind of wine that won't make you stand up and take notice, but will be happily drained during the course of a meal. Refined and subtle. 91pts

Inspired by Maugaux, this wine is cabernet sauvignon primarily. It has a more austere nose than its sister wines with a drier, earthier flavor. Lots of eucalyptus at first, with a quartz mineral layer and cassis. A lot more tannins on the finish - good intensity and minerality.

Really nice. Flavors of cherries and chocolate, with a bit of cedar. Good structure, and a nice silky finish.

Rich and supple, this is a lavishly oaked Napa Valley red. It's a blend of cabernet sauvignon (76 percent, from Terlato's estate vineyard in Rutherford) with merlot. The dark fruit holds its own against equally dark coffee scents of oak, finishing cl... Wine Enthusiast. A Proprietary Blend wine from California in USA. 2005 Terlato Cardinal's Peak 750ml

Winemaker's Notes:

Anthony Terlato, a leader in the wine industry for over 50 years, is a particular devotee of red Bordeaux blends and has been enjoying and cellaring those wines since the early 50s. When he began producing his own wine in California, he wanted to pay tribute to some of his favorite Bordeaux wines with a special selection of varietal blends. And thus the "Peak Series" of wines of Napa Valley Bordeaux blends were born to honor some grand crus of Bordeaux. Cardinals' Peak is the third blend in the series, following the traditions and methods of the Margaux region, which is comprised of a blend principally of Cabernet Sauvignon, with some Merlot. This wine is full-bodied and has the most structure and deepest color of all the Peak wines. Length/Type of Fermentation: Each vineyard block is vinified separately. Like the traditional method in Bordeaux, the wines are assessed in January with final blending done in March. Length/Type of Aging: Aged in French oak barrels, 50% new, in our underground wine caves for 22 months.

Tasting Notes:

COLOR Intense, concentrated ruby AROMA Black currant, black cherry, and cedar with jammy hints TASTE Complex, with a mix of spice, loamy earth, dried herb and berry accompanied by a touch of sage and chicory, and ending with a drying aftertaste.
