Terlato Cardinals Peak Red Blend 2006
This wine comes from the Stags Leap District, universally hailed as the best Cabernet Sauvignon location in California. The unique soil and climate here allow Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignons to rival the great Grand Crus of Bordeaux. This wine exhibits aromas of cassis, cocoa, blueberry with hints of vanilla. With rich berry flavors and firm tannins, it has a long finish with great balance. Enjoyable while young, it will reward those with the patience to cellar it for a few years.
A rarified nose of violets and posies, this wine is made in a hermitage bordeaux style - ie, bordeaux grapes with some syrah for additional fruit. 50% Cab S, 15% merlot, 35% syrah. Very thick and luxurious, a really powerful concentrated wine, with flavors of black currants and blueberries. Rather tannic finish, after such a sweetly fruity wine. Finish is on blackberry, bramble and eucalyptus. Nice.
Inspired by Maugaux, this wine is cabernet sauvignon primarily. It has a more austere nose than its sister wines with a drier, earthier flavor. Lots of eucalyptus at first, with a quartz mineral layer and cassis. A lot more tannins on the finish - good intensity and minerality.
