Tenute Silvio Nardi Rosso di Montalcino 2015

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Lovely light aromatics of herb, flowers, strawberry fruit, chalk and bitter almond are enticing and very varietal. While this is obviously very young it is also very round, fresh and clean with a soft, ripe edge to the very fine tannins. On the palate it is easy, but delicious with clear raspberry fruit, decent length and a finish full of dried herbs and slightly bitter cherry tones. 89pts

The nose showed strawberry, floral notes and undergrowth. On the palate, it was juicy and balanced with dark red fruits. The finish was staying with a floral perfume that lingered. This is a superb Rosso.

Vibrant fruits, with apple, mango, raspberry, and anise. The acidity is strong and the tannins are moderate. Some silky oak textures as well.

Slightly sweet, plum and raspberry aromas. Good acidity and a bit of bite on the palate, has structure and balance, tar and blackberry and a bit of medicine.

Delicate red fruit on the nose. Bright acidity in the mouth with flavors of tea and cherries. Finishes pretty quick. Nice stuff.

Do you ever go to a restaurant and you look for the least of the evils. This wine worked for this dinner. It was better than the Pinot Noir that my husband suggested. It did pair well enough with blackened food and the somewhat spicy appetizer although the wine was a little more on the fruity side. But it was not a sophisticated wine list so we did the best we could. I would recommend it for a chain restaurant as being a cut above.

TASTING NOTES: An intense ruby-red color, the wine has assertive aromas of ripe red fruits with spice notes. On the palate, the wine has a warm, soft and full presence, firm structure, and tannins that are strong yet suave and velvety. The wine shows good length. HARVEST NOTES: 2012 was, beyond doubt, a vintage with excellent maturing and aging potential. After a rather cold winter, spring was relatively warm, in keeping with normal trends. The vegetative period started during the second half of April, as expected. Summer was very hot, with scarce rainfalls. The rainfalls in late summer and early September restored the balance and created the best conditions for the most important ripening phase of the Sangiovese grapes. The grapes achieved optimal characteristics, both in terms of health and analytical parameters. The month of September was very good from a meteorological standpoint. Acidity was optimal, and extractable polyphenols were in high quantity and well balanced. REGION: Italy / Tuscany / Montalcino Grapes were hand harvested from the esteemed Casale del Bosco estate and totally destemmed, followed by a brief, cold prefermentation maceration. Fermentation and maceration in stainless steel tanks with skin contact takes 10-15 days, depending on parcel, at controlled temperature of less than 30°C. Aging in used casks of various sizes for 6 months is followed by an additional 4 months in bottle. FOOD PAIRING: Pair with grilled or broiled red meats or hearty pasta dishes. - Winery PH: 3.44 ACIDITY: 5.21 g/l ABV: 14.50%

The wines intense cherry red color and ripe, well-extracted wild cherry fruit aromas are offset by suggestions of leather and spice, confirmed on the palate in a chewy, forward wine of medium full body and velvety tannic structure.

Ripe strawberry and cedar follow through to a medium body, with a slightly hollow midpalate, but this is fruity and interesting. Drink now. 3,075 cases made. -JS ** Only 5 in Stock **
