Tenute Sella and Mosca Vermentino di Sardegna la Cala 2016

Member Review by ftezen:

Aromatic blend of pear, apple, and citrus. Medium-bodied, the fruit flavors of pear, apple, pineapple, and citrus rind are well balanced and have a crisp, medium finish. Paired well with fish.

La Cala Vermentino 2008 - 88 Points, Wine Review Online/ For those unfamiliar with the Vermentino grape, this wine is a good place to start. For those of you familiar with that grape, I suggest you also grab a bottle of this wine the next time you’re grilling fish. My colleague here at WRO, Mary Ewing Mulligan, recently extolled the many virtues of this Italian grape, which many winemakers have told me, “needs to grow within sight of the sea.” This light bodied refreshing one from Sardinia’s most widely known producers is fresh and bracing, with an intriguing, slightly salty lift in the finish. It’s a terrific choice for simply prepared seafood, such as grilled sea bass with sprinkled with olive oil and lemon.

/ An informal, easy-to-drink wine with medium aromatic intensity rallied mostly around fragrant fresh fruit, white stone and Mediterranean herbs. The structure is lean and the acidity is bright: You can't ask for more.

Obscure whites are summer's gems/ As far as white wines go, most of us have been exposed to Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc and Riesling. These "Big Three," as they are often referred to, produce some of the most stunning wines in the world. However, if you're ready to take a walk on the wild side, here are some other fabulous choices. Vermentino di Sardegna (ver-mehn-TEE-noh): You'll find flavors of apple, pear and a mouthwatering minerality that pairs beautifully with summer seafood dishes. Look for Sella & Mosca La Cala Vermentino.

La Cala 2014 - 89 Points & Best Buy, Wine Enthusiast/ Bright and savory, this opens with an alluring fragrance of white flower, exotic fruit, ripe peach, Mediterranean scrub and a whif of sea breeze. The creamy palate doles out ripe apricot, green apple, mineral and a slightly salty finish alongside refreshing acidity.

La Cala Vermentino 2007 - Wine Advocate/ Sella e Mosca's history goes back all the way to the 19th century. Even though the estate produces a large quantity of wine, quality is quite high. These entry-level wines offer a lot of varietal character, and best of all, they won't break the bank. The 2007 Vermentino di Sardegna La Cala is classic Vermentino, with it is best enjoyed over the next year.
