External Reviews for Tenuta Sette Ponti Supertuscan Blend Toscana IGT Oreno
Oreno is a sexy blend of sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon and merlot grown in a mix of limestone and the galestro-schist soils common to Tuscany. At first pass, this andrsquo;05 is fairly closed, save for a dark scent of cassis and hard-edged minerality. That structure relents slightly with air, the wine becoming more savory, with a black mushroom earthiness contrasting the fresh character of the fruit. Impeccably balanced, with lasting flavors of wild cherries and earth, this will drink beautifully for 20 years or more.
An internationally-styled, super Tuscan blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this wine's dense aromas of cassis and black stone fruit are offset by notes of herbs, spice and sweet oak which carry onto a ripe palate marked by firm
Wine Spectator ReviewGorgeous aromas of blackberry, currant, raspberry and just a hint of toasty oak and coffee. Full-bodied, with supervelvety tannins and wonderful balance. The finish goes on and on. 40 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 40 percent Merlot and 20 percent Sangiovese. Best after 2011.Wine Tasting NotesAn internationally-styled, super Tuscan blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this wine's dense aromas of cassis and black stone fruit are offset by notes of herbs, spice and sweet oak which carry onto a ripe palate marked by firm tannic structure.
Breathtaking. Dense and powerful, with grilled meat and currant aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, round and chewy; a massive and exciting. More muscular than the 2001. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best after 2007.
The sizzling summer heat in Tuscany in 2003 overwhelmed this estate's early-ripening Merlot, so owner Antonio Moretti took consulting enologist Carlo Ferrini's advice to omit the customary 25 percent Merlot in the blend. The result was an even mix of the best Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese from the estate's 136 acres of vineyards, which include some 70-year-old Sangiovese vines. Oreno is aged in new oak barrels for 18 months, is not filtered before it is bottled, and rests for a year before being released.
A blockbuster wine with finely tuned renderings of coffee, tobacco, spice and leather, Oreno requires a rare steak cooked on a mesquite grill or something similarly big and bold. In the mouth, this Sangiovese-Merlot-Cabernet blend delivers loads of spice that leaves a lasting impression thanks its firm tannins. Drink after 2010.
Gorgeous aromas of blackberry, currant, raspberry and just a hint of toasty oak and coffee. Full-bodied, with supervelvety tannins and wonderful balance. The finish goes on and on. 40 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 40 percent Merlot and 20 percent Sangiovese. Best after 2011.
Winemaker's Notes:
By tenutasetteponti.it ORENO Oreno, which takes its name from the river that crosses the estate and the hamlet where the Farmhouse is found, is the estate’s flagship wine. Fruit of the blend of Merlot structure and Cabernet Sauvignon class, brought together with the elegance of Sangiovese, it expresses best the potentiality of the territory and the Moretti family’s idea of wine. Classification: I.G.T. Production Zone: Central Tuscany Varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese Exposure: Southern Average Age of Wine: From 15 – 20 years Altitude: 230 – 250 meters above sea level Trellis: Cordon Number of vines per ha! : 6.666 Soil characteristics: Calcareous, clay rich in stony galestro Production per Hectare: 4500 kilo Vinification: 25 days of maceration With a manual punching Down of the cap Aging: In French oak Bottle aging prior to release: 12 months Characteristics: Dark ruby red colour tinged with decisive violet tones, expresses on the nose incredible sensations of fullness and complexity with a note of ripe berries that give sensations of chocolate and flashes of balsamic. Oreno is a captivating wine, rich in structure but decisively dynamic, enhanced by the nuances of new oak and an interminable finish.
