Tenuta Rapitala Grillo 2017

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Grapefruit and guava greet the nose followed by nutty, barrel aged chardonnay like tones. This is tense and focused on the nose with those tropical tones but no sense of over-ripeness or overt sweetness. Round, lush and very creamy on entry with stoney white peach and pear fruit that tense up considerably on the mid-palate revealing fairly pronounced mineral notes. The finish is a touch bitter and short, kind of clumsy but with a nice underlay of citrus pith and green pear skin. Ending with a licorice finale. Lots of wine here, will please those looking for an alternative to powerful chardonnays, though the flavor profile is quite different. 88pts

A melange of tropical fruit on the nose: bananas, papaya and hints of mango. A bit musty and very soft on entry with an increasing acidity, but has a smooth and succinct finish.

86 Points - Wine Spectator "Interesting melon and perfumed sandalwood aromas follow through to a medium body, with a good balance of fruit and a hint of vanilla pod along the way." - Wine Spectator Online Food Match: white meats, shellfish, fish, crab, chicken, Antipasto.

88 Points - The Wine Advocate"Is simply terrific. Candied cherries, flowers and sweet spices are some of notes that flow from this generous, soft Sicilian red." -Robert Parker, Jr., publication date: Apr 30 2009

I wouldnrsquo;t usually think that Nero drsquo;Avola and Pinot Noir would work well together in a blend, but the 2006 Nuhar is simply terrific. Candied cherries, flowers and sweet spices are some of the notes that flow from this generous, soft Sicilian red. Anticipated maturity: 2009ndash;2011.

Ruby colour, intense bouquet that announces a strong taste with an immediate and powerful structure. The tannin is present but not exaggerated and the acidity is delicate.

The estatersquo;s 2005 Nuar, an unusual blend of Nero drsquo;Avola and Pinot Noir is remarkably successful. Fragrant aromatics lead to a core of sweet, almost-candied fruit as the wine reveals its delicate, understated personality. This too offers excellent length and lovely balance. Anticipated maturity: 2008ndash;2010.
