Very expressive perfumed nose. Pretty spicy red fruit with bright minerality. Flavors of dark red cherry, flowers, new leather. Lighter style wine. Balanced and nice. 89 pts. 12/8/12
Had this several times on our recent cruise - a very nice wine with beef and Italian food. Soft tannins, deep robust flavor. A good value at $18 a bottle (it was $10.50 a glass onboard).
External Reviews for Tenuta Il Borro Pian di Nova Toscana IGT
When Ferruccio Ferragamo, CEO of the world renowned design firm of Salvatore Ferragamo stayed at Il Borro back in the early 90's he fell in love with it and decided to buy it. He has been producing world class Tuscan wines from there ever since. The Pian di Nova is his blend of 75% Syrah and 25% Sangiovese. The Wine Advocate scored this blend 90 points saying "The 2008 Pian di Nova, 75% Syrah and 25% Sangiovese, is a pretty, mid-weight wine laced with dried red cherries, crushed flowers, tobacco and licorice. There is good freshness in the glass, but some of the aromas and flavors are a touch advanced, and the structure is moderate, suggesting the wine is best enjoyed sooner rather than later. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014.
