Tenuta Guado Al Tasso Il Bruciato Bolgheri 2016

External Review by We Speak Wine:

Vintage: • The 2016 vintage was characterized by a mild winter with infrequent but abundant rainfall, which created important reserves of ground water in the soil. • The growing season arrived slightly earlier than usual and continued in a regular fashion, accompanied by a sunny spring with normal seasonal rainfall and average temperatures. • Summer was, overall, warm and without particular temperature spikes. • The ripening of the grapes took place with warm and sunny days, followed by cool nights that assisted in the development of aromatics and a good balance between sugars and acidity. • The grapes were picked between late August and late September. Vineyard History: • Guado al Tasso, meaning literally “Badger’s Ford,” takes its name from a common sight at the estate of Tenuta Guado al Tasso, Bolgheri, where it is produced. • The estate is located approximately 50 miles southwest of Florence, near the medieval town of Bolgheri. • The 2,500-acre estate stretches up from the shore of the Tyrrhenian Sea to the hills, in the heart of Bolgheri amphitheater. • The vineyard is at an elevation between 145 and 190 feet above sea level on stony, slightly calcareous soils. • The name Il Bruciato means “burned.” This wine is named after a wooded area on the Guado al Tasso estate that was destroyed by a famous fire in the early 1900s. Vinification: • The grapes were picked by hand and immediately taken to the cellar for scrupulous hand-selection prior to destemming and crushing. • Fermentation and maceration took place in stainless steel tanks. Some of the Merlot and Syrah were kept at a lower fermentation temperature to better preserve the varietal aromas and sweet tannins. • Malolactic fermentation took place partly in oak barrels and partly in stainless steel tanks. • The wine was barrel aged for seven months, followed by an additional four months in bottle before release. Tasting Notes: An intense ruby red color, the 2016 Il Bruciato offers aromas of ripe red berry fruit in addition to sensations of sweet spices and light, fresh mint. The palate is well structured, persistent and very pleasurable in its fruity finish and aftertaste. Grapes: 55% Cabernet Sauvignon 30% Merlot 15% Syrah Alcohol: 13.5%

Il Bruciato is the younger brother of the Gua- do al Tasso, with a more contemporary style. It is grown in vineyards which are high in potential, but not quite prestigious enough to make the Guado al Tasso, although the vineyard management aims at producing the highest possible quality. The wine is aged in barriques for at least 8 months and for a further 4 months in the bottles, and is both intense and very smooth.A nose of great intensity features red berry fruit and notes of sweet spices. On the palate, the wine is rich, ample on the attack and mid-palate and long and persistent on the finish and aftertaste. - WineryBlend:65% Cabernet Sauvignon20% Merlot15% Syrah ** SOLD OUT **
