This huge estate owned by the Antinori firm encompasses over 2,000 acres, but only 545 are under vine. The top cuveacute;es include the luxury-priced, fabulous Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah blend called Guado Al Tasso. Bolgheri is the source for some of Italyrsquo;s greatest proprietary red wine blends of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. No other region in the world (other than Pomerol and St.-Emilion) has produced such great Merlots. The 1998 Guado Al Tasso (a 60% Cabernet Sauvignon/30% Merlot/10% Syrah blend) was fashioned from extremely small yields, spent 14 months in 100% new French oak, and was bottled wiht minimal clarification. Malolactic was also done in barrel, so the wood is nicely assimilated. The dense ruby/purple-colored 1998 offers a glorious perfume of coffee, chocolate, blackberries, cassis, and vanillin. Dense, rich, supple-textured, and fruity as well as elegant, it will drink well for 10ndash;12 years.

Fast becoming one of the worldrsquo;s top luxury cuveacute;es, this blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Syrah is a complex amalgam of dry, classy fruit, herbal notes, smoked meat, black pepper and baking spices. Its calling card is its perfect body weight. It isnrsquo;t heavy or jammy, but it manages to offer tons of stuffing and a graceful finish loaded with the essence of cola, coffee and chocolate. If possible, it should be cellared for several more years.

Spectacular, the 1999 Guado Al Tasso possesses sweet tannin and accessibility. Its explosive aromatics consist of smoke, licorice, espresso, chocolate, vanillin and celestial black cherries. With sensational concentration, flamboyant flavors, an opulent texture, full body, and brilliant concentration as well as delineation, it comes across as intense, balanced, pure, and rich. Anticipated maturity: nowndash;2016.

Smoky, charry aromas are as tempting as the scent of steaks on a fire; the flavors only confirm the draw, with black cherry fruit that seems to require a fork and knife. Itrsquo;s cabernet sauvignon and merlot with a touch of syrah, dense and delicious; a catch for the cellar.

From Antinorirsquo;s coastal project, this wine blends cabernet sauvignon and merlot with syrah to reach a satisfying richness. The herbal tobacco scents keep it tuned to cabernet; that, together with the sleek, earthy finish, makes it feel very British, the kind of wine 007 might drink with a steak.

Probably not what you'd expect from this wine. It's a fair amount gamy, with caramel, warm earth and some bacon on the nose. There's sweet berry fruit and licorice notes, but also a dry, peppery, woody character... Wine Enthusiast. A Proprietary Blend wine from Tuscany in Italy. 2000 Antinori Guado al Tasso Bolgheri 1500ml

Very dark blackish-ruby. Opens with sultry, high-toned aromas of blackberry, sandalwood and clove. Then followed by powerful, sweet flavors of plum confiture, crushed cherry and roasted coffee bean, all nicely delineated. Full and rich, with enough acidity to ensure freshness. A distinct mineral edge is apparent on the lingering finish.
