Winemaker Notes - This wine shows crisp, ripe red berry and cherry fruit flavors and aromas sustained by a fresh, acidic note offset by classic Sangiovese notes of earth, mushrooms and leather, with an elegant tannic backbone.

The 2008 Chianti Classico Riserva Nozzole is a dark wine loaded with super-ripe fruit, smoke, mocha, tar and licorice. This is a pretty extroverted, flashy style for the year, but it works. The tannins are firm, yet beautifully integrated, especially on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. This is fresh and elegant, mixing cherry and berry flavors with earth and iron notes. Ripe, refined cherry and red berry fruit underscored by distinct impressions of mushrooms, leather and anise lead into this wine's elegantly textured palate, set in a structure of finely tuned tannins and fresh acidity.

Good medium red. Nuanced, pretty nose of red fruits, violet and mint. Supple red cherry and red berry flavors are framed by fairly soft tannins, with a note of violet perking up the persistent finish. Well done. The 2007 Chianti Classico Riserva comes across as beautifully opulent and soft in its dark fruit, leather, licorice and spices. This voluptuous dark Chianti captures the essence of the important Tuscan vintage in its depth and long, caressing finish. Mint and flowers add higher-toned notes on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2017. Features slightly stewed fruit and plum on the nose. Full-bodied, with lots of fruit and spices that turn to an aftertaste evoking fruit pie. W&S 93pts. - WS 90pts. - WE 90pts. - Winemaker Notes - The Nozzole estate is situated in a ruggedly beautiful valley in the very heart of the Chianti Classico zone, roughly halfway between Florence and Siena, just to the north of the village of Greve in Chianti. Of its 1,000 acres, approximately one third are planted in vineyards situated in numerous hillside microclimates supporting Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino vines and small plots of white Malvasia del Chianti and Trebbiano Toscano. The La Forra parcel is the estate's finest vineyard, situated on a southerly exposed slope at an altitude of 900 feet. Wine from this vineyard is produced as a single-vineyard Chianti only in exceptional vintages. Nozzole Chianti Classico Riserva La Forra is a wine of impressive concentration and depth, with an intense, aromatic fragrance of black fruit, leather and woodsy notes.
