Lots of ripe fruit, yet slightly stewed in character. Medium-bodied, with chewy tannins and a medium finish. Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best after 2007.

The 2007 Le Volte, Ornellaiarsquo;s entry-level wine, is especially opulent in this vintage. A soft, generous red, the wine offers terrific richness and depth in its ripe, perfumed fruit. Sweet scents of French oak linger on the long finish. This generous, seductive wine should continue to drink well over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2009ndash;2012.
The 2009 Le Volte is a pretty, radiant wine laced with expressive bright fruit. It shows the generous, inviting nature of the year in its open personality. The 2009 is 50% Merlot, 30% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Anticipated maturity: 2011andndash;2016.
The 1996 is a particularly successful example of this robust, fleshy, dry red wine. The color is dark ruby, and the wine offers up copious quantities of sweet jammy cherry and berry fruit. Mouthfilling, rich, and expansive, with good flesh, and a touch of wood, this uncomplicated, but immensely satisfying red wine can be drunk now, an over the next 3ndash;4 years. This excellent value from the winery responsible for Ornellaia is a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in small oak casks and bottled unfiltered.
Intensives Purpurrot mit violett-schwarzen Reflexen, zarte Randaufhellung; in der Nase sehr kompakt und dicht. In der Nase Lakritze, Cassis, Zwetschgen und etwas Vanille sowie feinen Röstnoten duftend. Im Gaumen schön dicht, mit finessenreicher Aromastruktur. Herrlich elegant und mit kerniger Struktur. Reife und Balance sind die besten Merkmale, die den Ornellaia 2009 wohl am besten beschreiben.
The 2009 Ornellaia caresses the palate with layers of seamless, radiant fruit. Sweet red berries, mocha, flowers, new leather and spices are some of the many notes that are layered in this sumptuous, totally beautiful wine. The 2009 stands out for its silky tannins and phenomenal overall balance. This is one of those wines that will probably enjoy a long drinking window. There is little question the ability to blend grape varieties was a huge help in this vintage. In my opinion, that is the main reason Ornellaia is a slightly more complete wine than Masseto in 2009. In one of my blind tastings, the 2009 made a very eloquent case for itself as the wine of the vintage. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. In 2009 winemaker Axel Heinz used the highest percentage of Cabernet Franc ever in Ornellaia and gave the wine less time in oak, both with the goal of preserving as much freshness as possible. Anticipated maturity: 2014andndash;2029.
