Ornellaia(1999)

Cabernet Sauvignon 65%, Merlot 30%, Cabernet Franc 5%
A cold winter has slowed the budding. In the spring, flowering and growth has been normal. Thinning of the grapes carried out in July (up to 50% in some Merlot’s vineyards). The Merlot was harvested in September’s first half. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from middle September to beginning of October. The grapes, well and uniformely ripen, have been hand picked and carried in 30 lb. bins. Excellent Cabernet Sauvignon.
Fermentation part in large oak casks, part in stainless steel, with temperatures < 30°C. read more...

Youthful crimson with only medium intensity of colour, surprisingly pale relative to the more intense-looking 1998. Prunes on the nose. An intriguing wine packed with ripe fruit and with hints of sottobosco, or undergrowth. The outstanding feature of this wine is its texture which is round and supple. This is not massive, nor dramatically persistent, but elegant and winning - and quite an early developer.
