The consumer's passport to fine wine/ A blend of cabernet sauvignon and sangiovese: Saturated dark ruby. Inky aromas of blackberry, dark plum and dark chocolate, lifted by a spicy, herbal element. In the mouth, the dark fruit and chocolate-covered espresso bean flavors are dominated by inky, herbal and oaky notes. This dense and fine-grained wine finishes with good length and notes of smoked meat and herbaceoous black pepper.
Tenuta Belguardo 2003 - 93 Points, Wine & Spirits/ This vintage (65% Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon and a touch of Merlot) has the powerful tannin of the typical year, while the fruit retains the fresh flavors of black plums and currants. The overall impression is smooth and rich, with that smoke-breathing finish creating a lovely contrast.
Tenuta Belguardo 2004 - 92 Points, The Wine Advocate/ With the 2004 vintage the Tenuta Belguardo returns to a more classic expression, showing the superior quality of the vintage in its more clearly delineated aromatics and nuanced personality. It offers an attractive array of bell pepper, menthol, toasted oak, cassis and blackberry/blueberry notes on a linear, structured frame of notable finesse as well as elegance with a lovely underlying note of minerality that provides freshnesss. It should be beautiful with another few years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2016.
Tenuta Belguardo 2003/ The 2003 Tenuta Belguardo a deep, almost-saturated ruby, presents typical Cabernet bell pepper notes on the nose along with plenty of jammy dark fruit, toasted oak and earthy flavors on a plump, generous frame. It offers excellent length in a full-bodied style, with the Sangiovese being mostly felt on the grip of the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2015.
Tenuta Belguardo 2003 - 92 Points, Wine Enthusiast/ This is an expressive and lively blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese that boasts dark, meaty concentration, and inky black appearance and big toasted notes of roasted nut, cedar, leather and spice. It is distinguished by polished tannins and outstanding intensity on the palate.
Tenuta Belguardo 2004/ This top-notch blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from Mazzei’s beautiful Maremma property boasts thick, modern concentration and pretty renderings of red fruit, vanilla and exotic spice. It has excellent texture in the mouth and is velvety and lively at the same time.
Top Italian Cabernet Sauvignon Producers/ This Florentine family is known for its Chianti Classicos, but its Belguardo (90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc) from the Maremma may be its best wine yet.
