The d’Alessandro brothers — Francesco, Massimo and Giulio — began making their reputation for excellent Syrah in Tuscany more than a decade ago, but it is only recently that they have mastered this finicky grape on their 86-acre estate near the town of Cortona on the Umbrian border. With the help of consulting enologist Stefano Chioccioli, they have made purer, more complex Syrahs.

Powerful aromas of crushed black fruits, pepper and wet earth; just a hint of roasted meat. Full-bodied, chewy and rich, with a long, long finish. This is a fantastic Syrah. Like a great Hermitage. Best after 2008.
