Telmo Rodriguez Basa Blanco 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2013 blend is 92% Verdejo, 8% Viura, giving it a more important focus on the native Verdejo than in the past, and doing away with Sauvignon Blanc. As always, it is a fantastically refreshing yet serious bottle of wine, with a range of aromas and fla- vors from stony mineral notes to citrus to tropical fruit. A great match for Spanish om- elettes. or pan-seared white fish.

This is how the business started, originally under the name of Compañía de Vinos de La Granja. The name was a declaration of intent: it made it clear that the company would be producing more wines in the future and contained a homage to La Granja, the famous glassworks, a centre of outstanding Spanish craftwork that has all but disappeared. Rueda of this quality and price is a treat - the nose is full of perfume from sweet garden flowers plus a hefty infusion of peach. On the tongue there is spritely brightness - acidity, apple, and more peach; the mouth-feel is excellent with a well balanced, slightly dry entry. Finish is rich and of medium length. Excellent bargain. 89 points.
