Tedeschi Amarone Classico F.lli Tedeschi Rødvin Italia Veneto Øvrige 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

Monte Olmi is the name of this vineyard, located at Pedemonte di Valpolicella in the heart of the Classic Valpolicella zone. The vineyard has a south-western exposure and is 2.5 hectares in size. It is designed on terraces to ensure water removal in case of abundant rainfall. At the same time the depth and the basically clayey structure of the terrain function to retain water during dry periods. This wine is strong ruby red in colour with a light amber sheen - clear and transparent. On the nose there are notes of cherry, raspberry and red currant combined with notes of Slavonia oak. The palate shows an elegant and robust structure with good acidity.

Tedeschi:
For generations, the Tedeschi family has been hand-crafting wines that represent the traditions, quality, and value of Italy's storied Valpolicella region. Today, the winery is entirely family owned and operated, and with its recent acquisition of the Maternigo vineyard, is investing in organic and biodynamic winemaking techniques.

VA greets the nose along with rich aromas of dried strawberry, raspberry and cherry backed up with gentle soil tones, a little fig, and underlying violet and white pepper tones A touch of sweetness on entry is quickly washed away by huge, refreshing acids in the mouth. While moderately tannic, the acids lend great clarity and incredible vibrancy to the palate. turning smooth and rich on the midpalate with dried cherry and date flavors that pick up some earthy spice on the long finish which also shows some spicy wood notes. This is deceptively easy to drink, and a refreshing change of pace for Amarone. 92pts

High toned stemmy herbal notes greet the nose followed by a little black pepper, some grilled meats, fresh plum, sweet tobacco, and drying hay aromas. Downright velvety on entry, lush with ripeness underpinned with some fine grained tannins. The dark fruit is a bit blueberry toned at first then shows flashes of currants and dried cherries in alcohol. there‘s great depth with a real flush of minerality on the finish along with perfumed macerated herbal notes adding additional complexity. This is seamless, elegant and refined until the long finish when the tannins and minerality wallop the palate. Already impressively attractive this should only improve with additional time in bottle. 94pts

Produced seven times since 83, three thousand bottles, Dark, leafy edged black cherry fruit, and grilled meats dominate the nose which turns lightly spicy with cedary wood, handfuls of dried leaves and earth, black tea, and a little pencil lead with air. A bit low on the palate, this is soft and seamless with roasted and pruny fruit that none the less feels fresh on the palate, though with the truffliness that comes from surmaturite. Fairly firm and tannic, though the tannins are very well covered with black cherry fruit on the palate. The fruit gains some detail in the mouth, very well grounded with spicy mineral notes and exotic spice notes which lead to a finish that absolutely crushes the palate with tannin. This is a monster. Not sure what will happen with this wine. The prognosis is good but so outside my range of experience that one has to be conservative when thoughts turn to its future. 92pts

Clear and trasparent, despite the rather dark colour, at sight. Pretty consistent, ruby-red colour. Chemical aromas (enamel) and tannins. Very warm and acid.

The Tedeschi family has dedicated its energy and enthusiasm to growing and producing wine in Valpolicella for many generations. They first purchased vineyards in the area in 1630. Today the Tedeschi family manages 74 hectares of vineyards, of which 29 hectares are family owned. Although Tedeschi is considered one of the top producers of Amarone and Recioto wines, the family has never rested on its laurels, continually striving to improve the structure of the wine by keeping the vines’ yields low. Recently Tedeschi became one of the ten founder members of the Amarone Families Association, which is dedicated to protecting the integrity of Amarone Grapes : Corvina 30%, Corvinone 30%, Rondinela 40%, Region : Italy / Veneto / Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC Maker : Riccardo Tedeschi Notes : Peat smoke runs through this more traditional style Amarone with hints of dried cherry, raisins, cigar box, spices and pepper tones. The wine has good structure and a long finish. An ideal wine for the cellar Serve : At 16-18°C with red meats, game and cheese. ABV : 15.00%

The 2009 Amarone della Valpolicella opens to a dark, midnight color and spicy aromas of old spice, Middle Eastern bazaar, waxed furniture, honey-roasted ham, cured meat, caramelized sugar and dark road pavement. The wine shows impossible extraction and concentration that will make it difficult to match foods that dont involve a hearty piece of red meat. Despite the bulk, there is beauty here and the wine will surely appeal to die-hard Amarone enthusiasts. Drink 2015-2025. - Robert Parker 93 PointsDeep ruby-red. Spicy aromas of floral red cherry, quinine, pink peppercorn and fresh herbs. Enters richer and deeper than the Nicalo, with ripe red cherry and red berry flavors lifted by aromatic herbs. Finishes clean and long, but this still needs a lot of time to express itself. A very good Valpolicella Ripasso that does not aim at being a cheap Amarone knock-off but has a Valpolicella dignity all its own. From a selection of grapes from different hillside vineyards than those that give the grapes for the Nicalo. - Stephen Tanzer 90 PointsThis has fragrances of ripe black cherry, raisin and a touch of leather. The palate delivers raisin and raspberry flavors, along with spicy black pepper notes. The palate is a bit evolved, showing tertiary notes. - K.O. - Wine Enthusiast Magazine 89 Points

Dark ruby-red. Dark plum, blueberry jam, coffee and lavender on the slightly warm nose. Rich, dense and nicely focused, with peppery red and black fruit flavors complicated by coffee and cocoa nuances. Finishes with youthfully chewy but noble tannins, very good length and a lingering red berry perfume. Concentrated and high in alcohol, its very well balanced too and remarkably easy to drink. Possibly the best-ever entry level Amarone from Tedeschi. Theres a sanguine edge to this firm red, with a streak of minerality underscoring flavors of sour and red cherry, cigar box and red currant, with just a touch of sun-dried tomato. Theres a dense weave, yet this is still light-weight and silky on the palate. Best from 2013 through 2027. 725 cases imported. -AN The 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a big, big wine. Plums, mocha, chocolate, spices, new leather and flowers are some of the notes that emerge from this fleshy, large-scaled Amarone. This is a fairly obvio...
