Te Mania Nelson Chardonnay 2009

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Pretty full barrel fermented nose here with lots of fresh oak-derived aromas accenting slightly roasted apple fruit. This is a touch a buttermilky in the mouth with an opulent, soft texture and a supple easy character. Notes of toasted bread dough on the mid-palate add some complexity that builds with layers of lime oil and red apple fruit on the back end. This finishes with nice length in a decidedly dry style with good balance. 90pts

Te Mãnia is a family-owned Nelson winery, located near the beautiful coastline of Tasman Bay. Our vineyards flourish on the ancient alluvial terraces through which rivers flow from the mountains to the sea. These stony soils, combined with Nelson’s cool maritime climate and high sunshine hours, produce grapes and wines of the finest quality. The free spirit of Nelson’s idyllic lifestyle and climate is captured by the Harrier Hawk gliding on the breeze above our vineyards. Our vineyards are located on free draining stony clay loam soils which have proved excellent for producing wine grapes of exceptional quality. We also source some grapes from other vineyards on the plains and the surrounding hills which add complexity to our wines. The vines on average are cropped at a yield of between 3 and 5 tonnes to produce fruit with excellent flavours. The flavours are further enhanced by our long, slow, ripening period which commences in early February and carries through to harvest time - typically from early April through to early May.
