Taylor Fladgate Late Bottled Vintage Porto 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

Taylor Fladgate created the LBV category, to satisfy the demand for a high quality ready-to-drink alternative to vintage port. Unlike vintage port, which is bottled after only two years in wood and ages in bottle, LBV is bottled after four to six years and is ready to drink when bottled. Taylor Fladgate’s LBV continues to set the standard for the category. The wines used to blend Taylor Fladgate LBV were drawn from a reserve of some of the best full bodied red ports, produced during the 2010 harvest, from grapes grown on Taylo r Fladgate own vineyards and on other top propertie s in the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior areas.

Typically beautiful coloration of blackberry/black cherry, opaque black/brown goodness with amazing legs! The aromas are still a little young with booze showing immediately, but sugarplum, prune, fig, deep dark berries etc....flavors are nice with sugary plum, quite a bit of alcohol, boysenberry/chokecherry and cherry as well as cranberry/green apple tartness. There are also hints of dark chocolate noted. The mouthfeel is relatively smooth with some sharp alcohol hints.....overall its a very nice wine with huge potential but does show its youth at the moment.

Tasting Notes:

Deep purple ruby in color. Elegant, perfumed, floral nose, with notes of damsons, dark cherries and cassis. On the palate, dark chocolate, raspberries, cedar spice, a touch of leather and liquorice with elegant and well integrated tannins. True to the Taylor style, the wine shows great balance and finesse.
