User Reviews for Taylor Fladgate Late Bottled Vintage Port
Add your reviewVery nice nose with loads of dark fruit, on the palate that turned to blueberry for me which was great, had a board of cheese in front of me and I would have to agree that the blue cheese paired perfectly
Got this as a birthday present to myself. The lush burgundy colour it exudes is amazing, on the nose its pungent almost cognac-y scent entwined with an intense grape jam hint. It taste brilliant, thick bold tannins that indeed do come out very strong at first but after the initial sip it gives way to a more berry focused flavour profile, the sugar levels were great and ended with a long strong finish. It tasted like a moderately sweet aged Shiraz which to me was excellent, I had mine with a Lindt 85% Dark chocolate bar, perfect match.
External Reviews for Taylor Fladgate Late Bottled Vintage Port
Taylor Fladgate is considered by many to be the Chateau Latour of Port. Always firmly structured and richly endowed, this Late Bottled Vintage 2005 is a prime example of the signature house style. Rated 90 points by Wine Enthusiast Magazine who said "Initially the tannins dominate, but then ripe, sweet jelly and juicy fruit shows through, giving the wine its main character. There is some firm tannin, but the wine enjoys generous sweetness."
With its charming aromas of spice drop, ripe cherries and schistous minerality, this Taylor looks set to zoom. And it is tasty, but also a bit soft and lacking structure - something unexpected from a Port under the Taylor label. Turns chocolaty on the finish.
This is a mature, deliciously perfumed and structured wine. There is a great milk chocolate flavor that balances the flavors of candied fruits.
Initially the tannins dominate, but then ripe, sweet jelly and juicy fruit shows through, giving the wine its main character. There is some firm tannin, but the wine enjoys generous sweetness.
The best-selling LBV keeps up its quality impressively. With its flavors of rich fruit cake and ripe tannins, it is soft and supple, and ready to drink without aging. But it has a touch of elegance and style that pushes it well up in quality.
Has berry character, but it's slightly funky, with old wood and earth notes. Medium- to full-bodied and medium sweet, with silky tannins and an earth and berry aftertaste. Drink now.
Winemaker's Notes:
Taylor's created the Late Bottled Vintage style of port and is not only acknowledged to be its finest producer, but remains the international brand leader. Blended from wines of a single year, LBV ages from four to six years in cask and is ready to drink when bottled. Its concentrated fruity flavor and firm, full-bodied style make Taylor’s LBV the perfect port to accompany chocolate desserts, and blue cheeses such as Stilton or Roquefort.
Tasting Notes:
Powerful, aromatic nose with lots of black fruit, plum and dark cherry. The floral and herbal notes that come through on the nose add lovely nuances to the bouquest. The palate is rounded, smooth and balanced. Flavours of blueberry and raspberry in abundance with a delicious touch of black liquorice. In true Taylor style the wine is well structured with big firm tannins that holds the wine nicely together. The finish is wonderfully long.
