Wine Tasting NotesTaylor, Fladgate First Estate is a superb, non-dated port for everyday drinking, superior to standard ruby port but a bit less special than Late Bottled Vintage. Ready to consume when purchased, it does not improve with bottle age, and requires no decanting unless the bottle has been kept for some time. Its rich, jammy, black-fruit flavors, mellow oak notes and full body make it an excellent partner for rich, highly flavored cheeses as well as intense desserts such as chocolate which easily overwhelm lighter wines.

With its dried raisin aromas and fresh, sweet, fruity character, this is a great example of Reserve Ports. It has a touch of tannin to go with the soft fruits, and flavors of ripe black figs and dark plums. First Estate is produced at Taylor Fladgate's original vineyard at Regua, which was bought in 1744.

A leathery and molasses nose. Soft and warm on the palate, with notes of black fruit. There is really nice texture in this port which yields a smooth long finish.

Winemaker's Notes:

Novice port drinkers can do no better than to begin here: First Estate is a soft and glorious mouthful. It is an outstanding vintage character blend, made at the very first property purchased by the company, Lugar das Lages, in 1744. Rich, fruity and elegant, it is aged for four years in cask and is ready for drinking immediately. As enjoyable before a meal as after.
