Tasca d'Almerita Red Blend Contea di Sclafani Rosso del Conte 2003
Towards the end of the 60's, Count Giuseppe decided to create a special reserve of Regaleali Rosso, capable of aging like other great international red wines. A challenge he won in 1970 and renewed in successive vintages. A wine long meditated upon, fruit of research conducted with rigour and passion for many years, both among the vines and in the cellar. Rosso del Conte is produced with Nero d'Avola from plants more than forty years old, cultivated as shrubs, almost unique today in Sicily. Colour: Deep, deep ruby turning into purple. Bouquet: Cherry, marasca, walnut husk, wild berries, vanilla, cinnamon, mint, sage and tobacco. Taste: Rich of concentrated fruits, fragrant and well balanced tannins. After taste: Mouthfilling, soft and persistent sweet tannin.

The 2003 vintage yielded an especially concentrated, opulent Rosso del Conte. This rich wine is packed with the essence of blackberry jam, cassis and sweet toasted oak. Most of the wine's appeal is in its up-front, generous nature as the tannins dry out a bit on the back end. Rosso del Conte is a blend of Nero d'Avola and other indigenous varieties. It spends 18 months in oak (80% new). Anticipated maturity: 2008-2018. Tasca d'Almerita is one of Sicily's leading wineries. The estate's Rosso del Conte was among the first wines that ushered in the era of important reds from the South.
Juicy black fruit up front, with a clean, floral, mineral undertone. Medium-bodied, with tightly packed tannins and a long, sleek finish. Very well done. Nero d'Avola and Perricone. Best after 2007.

Count Tasca d'Almerita makes Sicily's most elite wines, blends of indigenous grapes such as Nerello, Mascalese and Perricone. Aged one year in chestnut barrels. Superb match with grilled or roasted red meats, excellent with game and hard, sharp cheeses.
Saturated dark ruby. Explosive berry, nut and caramel nose, with some oak spice. Sweet, dense and very concentrated. Like a superripe fruit essence, with an eau de vie character and port-like notes of chocolate, earth and raisin. Fat and chewy, but with solid underlying structure. Very firm finish.
