Tasca d'Almerita Nero d'Avola Sicilia IGT Regaleali 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

Lamùri: or we could say, reasons of the heart. The history of Tasca d’Almerita is the history of a family, and, as such, it tells of people, passions and projects, such as that of growing Nero d’Avola, which long ago sunk its roots in the hills of Regaleali. The composition of the soil and an unique micro-climate are the very substance of this terrain, passed on to the ancient vines, combining freshness and elegance with the natural riches of Sicilian wines.

The 400 hectares of vineyards are between landscapes of almond trees and olive trees, and among this expanse there are wheat, oat and eucalyptus plants, that create a rural landscape of rare charm and beauty. It is a striking and unmistakable site, which enjoys a microclimate ideal for wine cultivation thanks to an altitude that varies between 400 to 750 meters and temperature range that averages about 15 Celsius degrees at night. The careful safeguarding of the grapes aromatic properties, which give the wines a characteristic elegance and distinctiveness, is a result of a rather late maturation process, as well as careful vine selection and solid winemaking, practiced in this area since 1100. Just enjoyed 2 bottles of this wine at Gradisca, 126 W. 13th St, NYC. Fantastic flavor and the food at Gradisca is great! Ask for Neil.

I really love this one. Intense ruby red. To drink with some red meat.
