Editorial Reviews for Tarima Monastrell Jumilla
This is overtly oaky on the nose and powerfully so, with some attractive if subtle leathery black fruit. A little herbal on entry, this settles into a lightly spicy, decidedly oak-driven palate profile that shows flavors of toast, char and tobacco. There's plenty of tannin here as well. Astringent and dry tannins seem ready to outlive the fruit here. There's not much of a finish, mainly more tannins. There seems to be both wood tannins and extracted fruit tannins with a real spicy pop on the finale. There's not much to really love here though there is power. 78pts
dark berry, leathery notes and high acid

My Rating 88: Firm body with nice elegant flavors need some time to develop. Nose is firm with plenty of fruity notes.
Another delicious Monastrell from Jumilla Spain. Needs an hour air time, maybe two, to integrate and smooth out. Concentrated smooth round sweet cherry nose with hint of vegetal. In the mouth lip smacking ripe fruit (cherry, berry), a bit warm on the attack but restrained enough and pleasant. Finish lingers of fruit and hints of leather and something woody, not sure if it is oak. Body medium plus, acid and tannin medium plus. Off dry to dry. Excellent QPR as tested.
Deep redish purple, soft tannins, light fruit flavor
Nice and dry, A little spicy. Solid and good. doesn't become really great because it kind of ends where it begins, with the dryness, the spiciness and the fruit. But i could see how some who might like the particular taste of this wine would really like it. A fairly good QPR wine.
Honestly, it's just ok. This wine was highly recommended from a merchant that knows I really like the Juan Gil. It's not even close, kinda flat. I would describe it as decent red flavored water. Not terrible but I wouldn'nt buy it again.

This is the first vintage of this wine; the 2009 Tarima is 100% Monastrell sourced from 25andndash;35 year old vines and raised in stainless steel with lees stirring. Medium crimson-colored, the nose reveals fragrant blueberries and underbrush. Firm on the palate with plenty of savory fruit, it is meant for drinking over the next 3 years.

Ruby-red. Fresh red and dark berries on the nose, with subtle herb and floral qualities in the background. Smooth, seamless and ripe, offering pliant black raspberry and cherry flavors that become richer with air. Finishes with good cling and a plummy note. Lots of fruit here for the money, but itandrsquo;s not jammy.
100% Monastrell (Mourvedre). The Tarima project is a joint venture of Jorge Ordonez and the Gil Family located in Jumilla, Spain. The grapes are from 25-35 year old vines (old vines) and was 100% fermented in stainless steel. Some stirring of the lees was done to attain the maximum potential from this varietal. The soils are very chalky and at an elevation of 2,100 feet above sea level. Tasting Notes: Notes of licorice, dark chocolate and dark violets are immediately noticeable in the glass, yet this wine enjoys a far more complex structure and will spark imaginations for wine connoisseurs and casual wine drinkers alike.
