Tapena Grenache 2009

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

This smells rather earthy with an herbal/floral edge to the light dried cherry fruit framed with a touch of vanilla. A touch soft on entry with very soft tannins and enough acid to just keep this together. It feels quite broad on the palate due to the low acid, though the flavors remain fresh (if slightly jammy) and simple delivering a nice blast of cherry fruit with a hint of blueberry. The finish is a bit thin, yet refreshing, though some might find it a bit raw. Simple with a nice freshness to the fruit. 85pts

Find us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/tapenawines Tapeña (tah-PAY-nyah) is the ideal complement for an evening of food and conversation among close friends. In Spain, going for tapas (TAH-paz) is the American equivalent of bar hopping with an epicurean twist. At every taberna, tapas (small plates) are served communal style - each person is armed with a glass of wine and a fork. Peña (PAY-nyah) is slang for a group of close friends. Read less

Deep red color, with a full mouth feel. Rich and lush with a smooth finish. Compliments hearty meat and gravy dishes, stews and goulash

Garnet colored, this wine is lush and sultry. Bright aromas and flavors of fresh blackberries and cherries fill the glass. The finish is velvety with whispers of pepper and exotic Spanish spice.

Tasting Notes:

Opening with powerful violet-red hues, this wine has a tremendous concentration of ripe cherries and juicy candied fruits. The palate is intense in rich, ripe, dark fruits balanced by soft tannins and a lovely spicy mouthfeel. It is well structured, soft but lively, ending with a lingering velvety finish.
