Tamarack Firehouse Red Columbia Valley 2014

Winemaker's Notes:

"Always a terrific value in just about every vintage, the 2014 Firehouse Red (29% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Syrah and the rest an assortment of varieties) gives up charming notes of black cherries, blackberries, wild herbs, licorice and vanilla in a plump, medium-bodied, thoroughly enjoyable package. Drink it over the coming 2-4 years." -RobertParker.com

Tasting Notes: Deceptively sweet aromas of strawberries, raspberries and rose petals. The flavors are dark, rich, lusciously mouthwatering, with cherries, boysenberries, tart plum skins, hints of leather, sweet pipe tobacco, and coffee beans. The tannins are firm, but not a bit edgy and the finish lingers with just a touch of anise. A truly lovely vintage. Winemaking: Crushed gently and dropped by gravity into small 1.5 ton bins, cold soaked a minimum of 48 hours, then inoculated with a variety of yeasts, hand-punched and pressed directly to barrel, where the wine finishes both primary and secondary fermentation. Cooperage: The wine is on 40% new oak barrels, mostly French and American oak with a compliment of Eastern European oak for 16 months.

Vintage: A warm summer led to an early start to harvest, followed by a stretch of lower than average temperatures in late September that slowed ripening so grapes hung longer without sugars skyrocketing, providing balance, more flavor development and concentration. A long but successful harvest! Blend: • 25% Cabernet Sauvignon • 24% Syrah • 22% Merlot • 12% Cabernet Franc • 7% Sangiovese • 3% Petit Verdot • 3% Grenache • 1% Counoise • 1% Mourvèdre • 1% Malbec and 1% Cinsault Cooperage: The wine is on 40% new oak barrels, mostly French and American oak with a compliment of Eastern European oak for 16 months. pH: 3.62 TA: 0.60 Alcohol: 13.8%
