I've been a fan of the firehouse red from tamarack for a while so i thought i would give the syrah a shot. opened the first one the other night at dinner with my 4 year old daughter and 2 year old son. my daughter asked me "daddy - why do you only drink wine at dinner?" given how much i was enjoying this syrah, i didn't have a good answer for her.

I wanna be formal, but I'm also here to party! This Syrah is great in that it is sophisticated in it's flavor and structure yet tasty and delicious. Aromas of toffee and coffee are delicious while the tastes jumps from that point with nice dark red fruit. Well done!!!

2004 was a tough vintage for many Walla Walla vineyards, due to a record winter freeze. This Syrah seems none the worse for wear, bearing some classic Walla Walla Syrah characteristics and showing very nicely. The nose is a great rich blend of cinnamon and licorice, earth and baked goods. There is a burst of berries as I take my first sip, leading to notes of toffee and nutmeg that lead to a jammy and ripe finish.

Although the nose was a little hot at first, this wine turned out to have good structure, with notes of vanilla, toffee, and hints of bitter apple. Good tannins. Solid wine.
