Taken Wine Company Napa Valley 'Red Blend' 2015

Member Review by Stallion:

A good solid red Napa blend of 60% Cabernet and 40% Merlot. Nothing fantastic, but solid. The best part of the wine is the super deep garnet color. It's beautiful in the glass. The nose is decent, and the structure of the wine is decent. The 2012 Taken is worth checking out with lighter faire! Cheers!

Raised in the small, winegrowing town of St. Helena, in Napa Valley, wine is in our DNA. We realized our mutual dream when we began producing wine, breaking away from our winemaking families, and developing ideas to craft a unique identity for ourselves. As we approached the completion of our college degrees, our passion for wine and business was evident.   The Taken Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was our first wine created, released in 2010. Each succeeding vintage represents another step we have "taken" on this journey.   We have now established a timeless, fun-spirited, wordplay venture to call our own. Whether taken, complicated, or available, we hope you enjoy our wines! Read less

Yet there's a form and tension to the wine with chewy tannins that make it very drinkable and intriguing. Drink or hold"

Their focus was to make great Napa Valley wine at affordable prices and having some close grower relations and wine grapes in their blood, they hit the ground running. This second release of their classic red blend is a true winner. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot aged 16 months in 50 % new French oak barrels. As we mentioned it's gotten lots of attention and a 93 point score from Robert Parker who said "It does not appear that this Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend is named after the Liam Neeson movies of the same name. However, there is no question I was “taken” by this 2012 Proprietary Red Blend Taken. It exhibits a dense purple color as well as glorious aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants, licorice, incense, and a subtle hint of oak. With spectacular opulence, a voluptuous texture and phenomenal concentration as well as purity, but no over-ripeness or heaviness, this beauty should drink well for 10-15 years. This cuvée is a joint project of Carlo Trinchero (from the family of White Zinfandel fame) and Josh Phelps (I’m not sure if he’s related to the Joseph Phelps Winery), who have put together a killer red. As a wine lover, one hopes this is only the first of many more to come." Better grab it before the paparazzi snap it all up.
